Moore's Knob is a really cool mountain in Stokes County, North Carolina. It's the highest point in the Sauratown Mountains. These mountains are like a small, separate part of the much bigger Blue Ridge Mountains. The Sauratown Mountains are known for their amazing rock cliffs. You can see these dramatic cliffs from far away! Moore's Knob itself stands tall at 2,579 feet (786 meters) above sea level.

Exploring Moore's Knob
Moore's Knob rises sharply from the land around it. It goes up more than 1,700 feet (520 meters) from the nearby countryside. This makes it a major landmark in Stokes County. You can spot it from almost any direction!
Moore's Wall: A Giant Cliff
On the north side of Moore's Knob, there's a huge rock cliff called Moore's Wall. This cliff is over 400 feet (120 meters) high! It's a very popular spot for rock climbers. They love the challenge and the amazing views from the wall.
The Fire Lookout Tower
At the very top of Moore's Knob, you'll find an old fire lookout tower. It's not used for spotting fires anymore, but hikers can still climb it. From the top of the tower, you get incredible views! You can see the whole area around the mountain.
What You Can See From the Top
On a clear day, the views from Moore's Knob are fantastic. You might even see the tall buildings of Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the south. To the west, you can spot the unique shape of Pilot Mountain, about 12 miles (20 km) away. Even the distant ridges of the Blue Ridge Mountains are visible far to the west and north. If you look to the east, you might even see the skyline of Greensboro, which is about 40 miles away!
Moore's Knob and Hanging Rock State Park
Moore's Knob is part of Hanging Rock State Park. The park takes care of the mountain and its beautiful trails. There are many paths for both hiking and climbing on Moore's Knob. It's a great place to explore nature and enjoy the outdoors.
