What Was Moores Bluff?
Moores Bluff was located on the west bank of the Tombigbee River in Mississippi. Long ago, it was a very important place for trading cotton. People started trading here as early as the 1840s.
A Busy Cotton Hub
A special road led to Moores Bluff from the west. It was called the "Cotton Road". This road was often filled with wagons. These wagons carried cotton and supplies for farms.
Moores Bluff had two big brick buildings. These were used as warehouses. Thousands of bales of cotton were shipped from Moores Bluff every year. Boats carried the cotton away on the river.
Why Did Moores Bluff Disappear?
In the 1890s, something big changed. A new railroad was built. It was called the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. This railroad made it much easier and faster to ship goods.
Because of the railroad, fewer people used the river for shipping. This meant less business for Moores Bluff. Over time, the town became empty. It turned into a ghost town.
Moores Bluff Today
Today, Moores Bluff is no longer a town. It is located on a quiet piece of land. This land is a point that sticks out into the river. No one lives there anymore.
