Moose Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in the famous Yellowstone National Park. It's about 30 feet (9 meters) tall, which is like falling from a three-story building! This waterfall is a "plunge type," meaning the water falls straight down without touching the rock behind it. It gets its water from a stream called Crawfish Creek.
Discovering Moose Falls
Moose Falls was officially named in 1885. This happened when a group of scientists, part of the Arnold Hague Geologic Survey, were exploring the area. They chose the name "Moose Falls" because they saw many moose in the southern parts of the park.
Where to Find It
Moose Falls is quite easy to visit! It's located very close to the south entrance of Yellowstone National Park. You can find it just 75 yards (about 68 meters) west of the south entrance road. There's a simple trail that leads right to the falls. This trail starts about 1.2 miles (1.9 kilometers) north of the park's south entrance station. It's a great spot for a quick stop to see some amazing nature.
