Moratinos is a small town in Palencia, Spain. It is located about 67 kilometers (42 miles) northwest of the capital city of the province. Moratinos is famous for "el castillo de Moratinos," which is also known as "Hobbiton." This is an ancient hill in the middle of the town. It has many family-owned caves used for storing wine.

Life in Moratinos
Moratinos is a quiet place. In 2018, only 59 people lived there. Many people who are officially registered as residents actually live in bigger cities. They often visit Moratinos on weekends or for special celebrations. In January 2015, only 18 people lived in the town all year round. Most of these residents are farmers.
Some people from other countries have also moved to Moratinos. Three foreign-born immigrants discovered the town while walking the Camino de Santiago, a famous pilgrimage trail. This trail goes right through the heart of Moratinos.
Growing Businesses
Moratinos has seen a lot of new businesses open recently. In 2010, there was only one carpenter working in the town. By 2015, Moratinos had several new places. These included a hostel, a special place for pilgrims called an albergue, and a bar-restaurant. This growth has made the town more lively.
Community and Culture
The local church in Moratinos is called La Iglesia de Santo Tomas Apostol. It was built in the 18th century. Weekly Mass is held there for the community.
The town also has a big annual celebration. This homecoming festival takes place on the third weekend of August. It's a time when many people, including those who have moved away, come back to Moratinos to celebrate together.
