Moreno Moser's Cycling Journey
Starting Out in Cycling
Moreno Moser began his cycling career with amateur teams. He rode for U.S. Montecorona as a junior. Later, he joined Arvedi Lucchini Unidelta as an amateur. In the second half of 2011, he got a chance to join a professional team, Liquigas-Cannondale, as a "stagiaire." This is like an intern in cycling. After this, he signed a two-year professional contract with the same team, starting in 2012.
Winning Races in 2012
Moreno achieved his first professional win in February 2012. This was at the Trofeo Laigueglia race. He rode ahead of everyone else to win alone. He did this again in May at the Eschborn-Frankfurt City Loop. He attacked from a small group of leaders in the final kilometer to take the victory.
Moreno then won his first big UCI World Tour race. This happened at the 2012 Tour de Pologne in July. He made a late attack in the first stage and won. He kept the race lead for a few days. On the second-to-last stage, he won another stage. He passed another rider right at the end. Moreno won the overall race by just five seconds.
Later that year, he almost won the 2012 Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. He was in a small group that was just ahead of the main pack. He finished in second place, very close to the winner.
Success in 2013
In February 2013, Moreno helped his teammate Peter Sagan win a race. He worked hard to keep the leading group together. The next weekend, Moreno won the 2013 Strade Bianche race in Siena. He rode away from the main group with about 17 kilometers left. He caught up to the leaders and then rode past them on a very steep climb. He finished first, and his teammate Peter Sagan came in second.
