Morgan Elizabeth Hurd (born July 18, 2001) is an American artistic gymnast. She was part of the U.S. national team from 2016 to 2021. Morgan is famous for winning the all-around gold medal at the 2017 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She also won a silver medal on the balance beam that year.

In 2018, she helped the U.S. team win gold at the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She also earned a bronze medal in the all-around and a silver medal on floor exercise. Morgan has won several medals at the USA Gymnastics National Championships and is a two-time American Cup champion. She was also part of the gold-medal winning team at the 2019 Pan American Games.

About Morgan Hurd

Morgan was adopted from Wuzhou, China, when she was 11 months old. She started gymnastics at age 3. Morgan trained at First State Gymnastics when she was in fifth grade. She lived in Middletown, Delaware, with her mother, Sherri. Morgan is known for being one of the few elite gymnasts who wears glasses during competitions.

Junior Gymnastics Career

Morgan Hurd started her gymnastics journey as a junior. She quickly showed her talent in many competitions.

2014: Early Competitions

In 2014, Morgan competed in the Nastia Liukin Cup. She placed 14th as a Level 10 gymnast. She also competed at the American Classic and the U.S. Classic. At the P&G National Championships, she finished 29th in the all-around for junior gymnasts.

2015: Showing Improvement

Morgan continued to improve in 2015. At the U.S. Classic, she finished 9th in the all-around. She also placed 2nd on the uneven bars. At the P&G National Championships, she finished 8th in the all-around. She also tied for 4th on the uneven bars.

2016: Joining the National Team

The year 2016 was a big one for Morgan. She won first place in the all-around at the American Classic. At the U.S. Secret Classic, she placed 5th in the all-around. She also won 1st on floor exercise and 2nd on uneven bars. Her strong results at the P&G National Championships helped her join the junior national team.

Senior Gymnastics Career

Morgan Hurd became a senior gymnast in 2017. This meant she could compete in bigger international events.

2017: World Champion!

Morgan made her international debut at the Stuttgart World Cup. She won a bronze medal in the all-around. In April, she helped the U.S. team win first place at the City of Jesolo Trophy.

In September, Morgan was chosen to represent the U.S. at the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal. She performed well in the qualifying rounds. In the all-around final, Morgan won a surprise victory! She earned the gold medal with a total score of 55.232. Two days later, she won a silver medal in the balance beam final.

2018: More World Medals

In 2018, Morgan started strong by winning the American Cup. She also competed at the 2018 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships. There, she helped the U.S. team win gold. She also won a silver medal in the all-around.

At the National Championships, Morgan placed second in the all-around. She also earned bronze medals on uneven bars and floor exercise. She was named to the national team for the third year in a row.

In October, Morgan was chosen for the team to compete at the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The U.S. team won the gold medal. Morgan also won a bronze medal in the all-around final. She then won a silver medal on floor exercise. With these wins, Morgan became one of the most decorated American female gymnasts in World Championship history. Later that year, she had surgery on her elbow to remove two small bone chips.

2019: Pan American Games Gold

In February, Morgan was selected to compete at the Tokyo World Cup. She won the gold medal there.

In July, Morgan was named to the team for the 2019 Pan American Games. The U.S. team won the gold medal. Morgan helped the team with her strong performances on vault and bars.

Morgan also competed at the U.S. National Championships. She finished fourth in the all-around. She also won a silver medal on the uneven bars. In November, Morgan decided to join the Florida Gators college team.

2020: Another American Cup Win

In March 2020, Morgan represented the U.S. at the 2020 American Cup. She finished in first place, winning another gold medal in the all-around. She showed some new and old skills during her routines. In August 2020, she had surgery on both of her elbows.

2021: Recovering and Touring

Morgan had another elbow surgery in March 2021. She later announced she would join Simone Biles' Gold Over America Tour. This was a gymnastics tour across the country. She returned to competition at the 2021 U.S. Classic. Morgan was also featured in a TV show called Golden: The Journey of USA's Elite Gymnasts.

College Gymnastics (NCAA)

Morgan Hurd officially joined the Florida Gators team in January 2022. College gymnastics, called NCAA, is a popular way for gymnasts to continue competing while studying.

Before her first competition, Morgan had surgery on her right knee for a torn ACL. This meant she couldn't compete in her first year. She made her college debut on January 6, 2023. She competed on uneven bars and balance beam. In the 2023–2024 season, Morgan competed on balance beam and floor exercise. She earned her highest score on floor exercise, a 9.95, in March 2024.

In September 2024, it was announced that Morgan would no longer compete for the Florida Gators. Instead, she would take on a new role. She now helps the team by creating content and sharing their story.
