Moriah Aman, Cwmaman facts for kids
Moriah Aman, Cwmaman was a special kind of church building called a chapel in Cwmaman, Wales. It was a place where people gathered to worship and learn together.
Starting Small: The Chapel's Beginnings
The idea for Moriah Aman Chapel began in 1853. A minister named Rev. John Davies from a nearby church, Saron, helped start it. At first, it was just a Sunday School where children learned about faith. Prayer meetings were also held in people's homes.
The very first chapel building opened on October 2, 1855. Twenty-seven people who were part of the Saron church moved to become the first members of Moriah Aman.
Growing and Changing Through the Years
As more people joined, a bigger chapel was built. This new building opened in 1893 and could seat 650 people. It even had a balcony, called a gallery, for 250 more! By 1905, the chapel had 435 members.
Moriah Aman Chapel continued to be a place of worship for many years. However, it eventually closed its doors in 1988. A few years later, in 1995, the building was given a new life. It was renovated and became a different kind of church, a Pentecostal church.
