The Story of Mose
Mose began its story in 1899. A post office opened there in 1904. It helped people send and receive mail until 1954.
In the 1930s, about 30 people lived in Mose. It was a small, quiet community.
The Big Storm of 1943
On July 14, 1943, a powerful storm changed Mose forever. This storm was a "derecho." A derecho is a widespread, long-lasting windstorm. It has very strong, straight-line winds.
The derecho caused a lot of damage to the town. Many buildings were destroyed. Because of the storm's damage, most people decided to leave Mose. They moved to other towns nearby. This is why Mose became known as "The Town That Blew Away."
