The Moses Greenwood House is a very old and important building in Dublin, New Hampshire. It used to be known as the Dublin Inn. This historic house is located where Pierce Road and Old County Road meet.
It was first built around 1783. Later, it became much bigger and was turned into an inn in the early 1900s. In 1945, something very special happened here. Important Americans met at the inn to write a document called the Dublin Declaration. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This means it is a protected historic site.
About the Moses Greenwood House
The Moses Greenwood House is in the eastern part of Dublin. It sits at the corner of Old County Road and Pierce Road. Today, it looks like a large, spread-out house with 2.5 stories. It has many additions and a porch that goes around most of the outside. The roof has several dormer windows, which are windows that stick out from the roof.
The House's Long History
The oldest part of the house was built around 1783. It was built by Moses Greenwood. He was a soldier who fought in the American Revolutionary War. His family lived in this house for about 100 years.
Later, in 1899, Mary Metcalfe bought the house and added a new section. Then, in 1910, Adele Thayer added another section. These new parts were built in a style called Georgian Revival. This style matched the look of the original house. In 1921, the house officially opened as the Dublin Inn.
Important Meetings for Peace
In 1945, a group of important Americans met at the Dublin Inn. These people included politicians, lawyers, and business leaders. They came together to write the Dublin Declaration. This document asked for control over nuclear weapons. It also suggested making the United Nations a stronger worldwide group. A very famous person, John F. Kennedy, who later became president, was at this meeting.
Another important meeting happened here in October 1965. It was called the Dublin Assembly on Peace. Anna K. Yoss, who owned the Dublin Inn at the time, hosted this event. After being an inn, the building was used as a special clinic to help people.
