The name Mosi-oa-Tunya comes from the Lozi language. It is the local name for Victoria Falls. In English, it means The Smoke Which Thunders.
These coins are made of 22 carat gold. Each coin weighs one troy ounce. This is a special unit of weight used for precious metals. The coins were made outside of Zimbabwe. Every Mosi-oa-Tunya coin has its own unique serial number.
Why Were These Coins Made?
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe started giving out these coins. On June 25, 2022, 2,000 coins went to banks. People can use them for everyday shopping.
The coins were introduced because of money problems in Zimbabwe. Prices were going up very fast. Many people in Zimbabwe started using the U.S. dollar instead of their local money. The gold coins were meant to offer a stable way to save and spend money.
How Much is a Mosi-oa-Tunya Coin Worth?
The value of a Mosi-oa-Tunya coin changes. It is worth the international market price for one troy ounce of gold. Plus, an extra five percent is added to that price. This means its value can go up or down with the price of gold.
