History of Mound, Texas
Mound was one of the first places settled in Coryell County. People started living there in the early 1850s. This was even before many other communities in the area began.
For a long time, Mound was an important center for education. It was even named after a local school called White Mound School. However, things changed in 1971. The schools in Mound joined with the Gatesville Independent School District.
Even though it was settled early, Mound didn't get a railroad line until 1882. Its post office opened a bit later, in 1884. Today, a road called FM 1829 goes through Mound.
