Mound Station covers a total area of about 0.52 square miles (1.34 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The village is found where U.S. Route 24 meets County Route 2.
A Look Back in Time: The History of Mound Station
The history of Mound Station began in 1860 when a post office was first set up there. The village officially became a village on December 23, 1901.
In 1903, the post office changed its name to Timewell. This was done to avoid confusion with another town in Illinois called Mounds, Illinois. Even though people locally started calling it Timewell, the official legal name of the village has always remained Mound Station. So, official records still show it as Mound Station, while the local post office uses the name Timewell.
