The 2013 Plane Incident
On January 23, 2013, a special ski-plane crashed on Mount Elizabeth. This plane, called a DHC-6 Twin Otter, belonged to Kenn Borek Air. There were three Canadian people on board.
The plane was flying from the South Pole's Amundsen-Scott station in the US. It was heading to Terra Nova Bay's Zucchelli station in Italy. The plane was working for an Italian agency that deals with new technologies and energy.
Rescuers found the plane on January 25, 2013. It had crashed at a height of about 13,000 feet. A rescue team from New Zealand reported that no one could have survived the crash. Investigators from Canada looked into what happened. Recovery efforts stopped on January 27 because it was too dangerous. However, they were able to get the cockpit voice recorder from the plane.
