Early Beginnings of the Park

Work on the park started a long time ago, in the early 1900s. The first step was building a dam across Sam's Creek. This helped create the first lake.

Completing the Lakes

Building continued over the next few decades. A second, larger lake was finished below the first one. This happened on July 10, 1930. These two lakes are a big part of the park today.

In 1949, the park officially became a state park. It was given to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. They now manage the park and keep it ready for visitors.
