Mount Houston is a small community located in the northern part of Harris County, Texas. It is found just east of U.S. Highway 59 and is close to the Dyersdale oil field.

Mount Houston began as a small settlement along the Houston, East and West Texas Railway. When it was first established, it was about 10 miles (16 km) away from the city of Houston. A post office opened in the community in 1910. By 1914, about 100 people lived in Mount Houston. The community had several market gardeners, who grew food to sell. It also had two churches, a sawmill, and a lumber company. The post office closed in 1918. Even by the 1980s, Mount Houston had not grown much in size. However, over time, three schools and three churches were built within 1 mile (1.6 km) of the community.

Students living in Mount Houston attend schools within the Houston Independent School District. The main high school for students in this area is North Forest High School.

Before July 1, 2013, the school district that served this area was known as the East and Mount Houston Independent School District. It was later renamed the North Forest Independent School District.
