Mount Zion's Famous Visitor
Mount Zion became well-known because of a special visitor. In 1994, a man named Alvin Straight traveled a very long way to get there.
Alvin Straight's Journey
Alvin Straight lived in Laurens, Iowa. He wanted to visit his older brother, who was not feeling well. Alvin decided to make the trip in a very unusual way. He rode a John Deere riding lawn mower!
His journey was about 240 miles (386 km) long. It took him six weeks to travel all the way to Mount Zion. This amazing trip showed how much he cared for his brother. His story was even made into a movie called The Straight Story.
