General Sir Mowbray Thomson (born April 1, 1832 – died February 25, 1917) was a brave officer. He served in the British East India Company, a powerful trading company that also governed parts of India.

Thomson was born in a place called "Bhurtpore" in India, which is now known as Bharatpur, Rajasthan. This was on April 1, 1832. He went to school in England. He also attended a special military school called Addiscombe Military Seminary.

Early Military Career

In 1853, Thomson joined the 53rd Bengal Native Infantry. This was a regiment within the British East India Company's army. He quickly became an important officer.

A major event happened in 1857. It was called the Indian Mutiny. This was a big uprising against British rule in India. During this time, Thomson played a key role. He helped defend a place called Wheeler's Entrenchment during the Siege of Cawnpore.

Later Life and Retirement

Thomson was badly wounded during the rebellion. He was sent back to England to recover. While he was recovering, he was promoted to a higher military rank. He also wrote a book about his experiences. It was called The Story of Cawnpore and was published in 1859.

After he got better, Thomson returned to India. He took on important government jobs. He worked as a political agent in Manipur. Later, he became an agent for Wajid Ali Shah, who was the former King of Oudh.

Thomson retired from the army in 1885 as a major-general. He was later promoted to the rank of full general in 1894.
