Mr. Tickle is the very first book in the popular Mr. Men series, created by Roger Hargreaves. It was first published on August 10, 1971. The idea for Mr. Tickle came from Roger Hargreaves' son, Adam Hargreaves. Adam once asked his dad, "What does a tickle look like?" This simple question sparked the creation of the famous character with super long arms!

The Story of Mr. Tickle
Mr. Tickle's Adventures
The book starts with Mr. Tickle waking up in his bed. He has incredibly long arms, which help him do amazing things. For example, he can make his own breakfast without even getting out of bed!
One day, Mr. Tickle decides it's the perfect day for tickling. He sets off on a journey around his town. As he goes, he tickles many different people. He tickles a teacher, a policeman, and even a greengrocer. He also tickles a station guard, a doctor, a butcher, and a postman.
The Ending and Mr. Tickle's Ways
The story ends with a fun warning for the reader. It suggests that Mr. Tickle might be hiding near your door, ready to give you a surprise tickle!
This book is a bit unique compared to other Mr. Men stories. Usually, if a character is a bit naughty, they learn a lesson. But Mr. Tickle keeps tickling everyone without any changes to his behavior. He is free to tickle another day, and he doesn't learn a lesson from his actions.

Mr. Tickle in The Mr. Men Show
Character Changes
Mr. Tickle also appears in The Mr. Men Show, a TV series from 2008. In the show, he looks mostly the same as in the books. However, his hat now has a stripe. His arms are usually normal-sized, but they can stretch out super long whenever he needs them to!
Tickling for Happiness
In the TV show, Mr. Tickle tickles other Mr. Men and Little Misses. This is because there are no human characters in their town, Dillydale. He still loves to tickle everyone he meets. But in the show, he does it to make people happy, not just for mischief. He will stop if someone doesn't want to be tickled.
Favorite Targets and Catchphrases
One of his favorite characters to tickle is Mr. Grumpy! Mr. Tickle also has his own special phrase in the show: "Somebody needs a tickle!"
In the United States and United Kingdom versions of the show, different actors give Mr. Tickle his voice. Jeff Stewart voices him in the US. Rob Rackstraw voices him in the UK.
