Adam Hargreaves (born June 18, 1963) is a talented English author and illustrator. He is the son of the famous writer Roger Hargreaves. Adam continues his father's much-loved Mr. Men and Little Miss book series. Did you know that Adam himself inspired the very first Mr. Men book? When he was just 8 years old, he asked his dad, "What does a tickle look like?" This question sparked the idea for Mr. Tickle, published in 1971.

Adam Hargreaves' Journey
Taking Over the Family Business
After his father, Roger Hargreaves, passed away in 1988, Adam took charge of the Mr. Men and Little Miss cartoon world. At first, Adam thought the series was "a bit clichéd." He had even thought about becoming a farmer! He worked on farms in Sussex and studied at Plumpton College.
Adam then traveled to Australia for four months. There, he met the woman he would marry in 1987. When his father died, Adam decided to take over the family business. His brother Giles chose a career in advertising. His twin sisters, Sophie and Amelia, were still too young.
Learning to Draw Like His Father
Learning to draw in his father's unique style was not easy. It took Adam "years of trial and error." He even completed a course at Brighton Art College. As he taught himself to draw like his father, Adam gained a lot of respect for his father's work.
He understood his father's sense of humor. Adam realized that the books and characters were so successful because they showed common human feelings. The stories also had a strong sense of right and wrong.
Mr. Men's Future and New Characters
In 2004, the family sold the rights to the Mr. Men series to a company called Chorion. This sale was for £28 million. However, Adam Hargreaves remains the public face of the franchise. He continues to create new characters for the series.
Famous fashion designer Stella McCartney asked him to create Little Miss Stella. This character was used for invitations to her 2006 fashion show. For the series' 40th anniversary in 2011, Adam released Little Miss Princess. This book came out just in time for the royal wedding.
Beyond Mr. Men: A Passion for Painting
While Adam is best known for continuing the Mr. Men series, he also loves painting. In 2017, he created a character called Mr. Isle of Man. This character was for the island's yearly literature festival. You can find his artworks in several art galleries.
