Stella Nina McCartney CBE (born 13 September 1971) is a famous English fashion designer. She is known for her unique style and for using only animal-free materials in her designs. Stella is the daughter of the legendary musician Paul McCartney and photographer Linda McCartney. Like her parents, Stella cares deeply about animal rights and the environment. She uses vegetarian and animal-free materials in all her work. Since 2005, she has also designed cool sports clothes for Adidas.

Early Life and Family

Stella McCartney was born on 13 September 1971 in London. She was named after her two great-grandmothers, both called Stella. Her mother, Linda, had Jewish family roots. As a child, Stella traveled all over the world with her parents and their band, Wings. She traveled with her older half-sister Heather, older sister Mary, and younger brother James.

Stella's father, Paul McCartney, shared that the band's name, Wings, was inspired by Stella's birth. She was born by emergency caesarean section. Paul prayed that she would be born 'on the wings of an angel'.

Even though they were famous, the McCartneys wanted their children to have a normal life. Stella and her siblings went to local public schools in East Sussex. Stella has mentioned that she faced bullying at school, but also admitted to being a bully herself sometimes.

Stella's Fashion Career

Starting Out in Design

Stella became interested in designing clothes when she was young. She designed her first jacket at age 13. When she was 16, she worked for the famous designer Christian Lacroix. This helped her learn about haute couture, which means high fashion. She also worked for Edward Sexton, who was her father's tailor on Savile Row.

Stella studied fashion design at Ravensbourne University London and then at Central Saint Martins. She graduated in 1995. For her graduation fashion show, supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon, and Kate Moss modeled her clothes for free. Her father, Paul, even wrote a special song for the show called "Stella May Day."

Stella has always been a vegetarian. This means she never uses leather or fur in her designs. The Guardian newspaper called her a strong supporter of animal rights in 2015. Some of her designs even have messages about her 'no animal' policy. For example, one of her Adidas jackets says 'suitable for sporty vegetarians'.

Becoming a Famous Designer

In 1997, Stella McCartney became the main designer for the fashion brand Chloé. She worked there until 2001.
