Mrs Philarmonica facts for kids
Mrs. Philarmonica was a talented English composer from the early 1700s. We don't know her real name, as she used a special pen name. She was active around 1715, which is when she published her music. She wrote music in the Baroque style. This style was popular from about 1600 to 1750.
Mrs. Philarmonica published her music in London. She worked with a publisher named Richard Meares. Her identity remains a mystery even today.
Her Music
Mrs. Philarmonica wrote several collections of music. These pieces were for small groups of instruments. Her main works include:
- Trio Sonatas: She published six trio sonatas. These were written for two violins. They also included a cello (violoncello obbligato) and a continuo. The continuo part was played by instruments like a violone (a large string instrument), a harpsichord, or an organ. A continuo provides the harmonic and rhythmic foundation for the music.
- Divertimenti: She also published six divertimenti. These pieces were for two violins. They could also include a cello, harpsichord, or organ. Divertimenti were often lighter, more entertaining pieces of music.
