Muad's Start in Politics
Muad became interested in politics while studying in the United Kingdom. He learned about socialism, which is a way of thinking about how society and the economy should be organized.
Joining the Maldivian Democratic Party
He was one of the first people to join the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) when it was formed. This party was important in bringing democracy to the Maldives.
Muad also helped the MDP by talking to British politicians and the European Union. He worked to get their support for the party. At that time, the party's leader, Mohamed Nasheed, was based in Sri Lanka.
Standing Up for Change
Muad was part of a big protest in the Maldives against the government. Hundreds of people, including Muad, were there. The National Security Service (NSS) took strong action against the protesters. This day became known as Black Friday in the Maldives.
Muad was injured during this event. After the protest, the European Union sent a group to find out what happened.
A New Government
In 2008, the Maldivian Democratic Party won the presidential elections. They worked with other parties to form a coalition government. This was the first time in the Maldives' history that different parties worked together to lead the country.
After this change, Muad kept working to promote human rights. He also supported peace for people affected by conflicts. He did this through social media campaigns with other activists online.
Muad's Skills and Experience
Muad has learned many different things and has a lot of experience. He studied international relations and security in the United Kingdom. He is also an expert in e-commerce, which is about buying and selling things online.
He has over 12 years of experience in international shipping and trade, mostly in Malaysia. He also has more than five years of experience in the tourism business. People also know him as an economist and someone who analyzes world events. His wide range of knowledge has made him well-known.
Changes in Political Views
Towards the end of 2011, Muad left the Maldivian Democratic Party. He disagreed with President Mohamed Nasheed and his advisors. Muad felt they were becoming too controlling.
Joining the Opposition
In early 2012, Muad joined other groups that were against President Nasheed. These groups formed an opposition movement.
The police tried to stop the opposition protests. This led to clashes between the protesters and the police. As more and more people joined the protests, a judge decided that people arrested without a good reason should not be held. President Nasheed then ordered the special forces to arrest this judge.
Social media played a big part in getting people to support the protests against President Nasheed. On February 7, 2012, President Nasheed stepped down from his position. This happened live on TV after the police and military joined the protesters and asked him to resign.
Current Work and Views
Muad is also an international coordinator for an organization called Maldives Unity Association (MUA). This group helps local communities grow and develop.
Supporting Candidates
In the 2013 presidential elections, Muad supported two candidates. One was from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the other from the Jumhooree Party (JP). Both parties wanted a government where all parts of Maldivian society were represented. Abdulla Yameen from the Progressive Party of Maldives won that election.
Muad was the first politician and businessman from the Maldives to meet with representatives from the Muslim Brotherhood. He also met a former member of Egypt's first democratically elected Parliament. Muad shared his ideas about solving world conflicts peacefully. He believes in transparent democratic rules and international law. These ideas were well received.
On the Middle East situation, Muad strongly believes in a "two-state solution." This means he thinks Palestinians and Israelis should live peacefully side by side in their own separate states.
In the 2018 presidential elections, Muad did not openly support President Yameen or his opponent, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. However, his public statements seemed to show more support for Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who won the election.
