Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar (Bengali: মুহম্মদ জমিরুদ্দিন সরকার; born 1 December 1931) is a Bangladeshi lawyer and politician. He served as the acting President of Bangladesh in 2002. He also held the important role of Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh.
Mr. Sircar is one of the people who helped start the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He was also a member of its standing committee, which is a group that helps make important decisions for the party. In 1990, he founded the Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar Collegiate Institute in Panchagarh.

Early Life and Education
Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar was born on December 1, 1931. His family lived in the village of Nayabari in Tetulia, which was part of the Bengal Presidency (now in Panchagarh District, Bangladesh). His parents were Moulvi Ali Baksh and Begum Fakhrunnessa.
He studied at the University of Dhaka, where he earned his M.A. and LL.B. degrees. After finishing his studies in 1960, he began working as a lawyer. In 1961, he traveled to London to become a Barrister-at-Law. He was accepted by the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, which allowed him to practice law in England and other Commonwealth countries.
Political Career
Mr. Sircar worked as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He specialized in different types of law, including constitutional, civil, and criminal law.
In 1977, the President of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman, chose him to be part of the Bangladesh team at the United Nations General Assembly. He worked with the Legal Committee at the UN for four years, from 1977 to 1980. In 1981, he became a State Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Bangladesh Government. In this role, he went to the UN to discuss the Middle East peace process and disarmament. He also attended a conference for Labor Ministers in Baghdad.
Mr. Sircar was elected to the Parliament several times. He won elections as a candidate for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party from Panchagarh-1 in 1996 and 2001. He also won a special election from Dhaka-9 in 1991. He was elected to Parliament again in 2009 from Bogra-6 in a special election.
Speaker of Parliament and Acting President
From October 28, 2001, to January 25, 2009, Mr. Sircar served as the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, which is the Parliament of Bangladesh. This is a very important role, as the Speaker leads the parliamentary sessions.
On June 21, 2002, he became the acting President of Bangladesh. This happened after the previous president, A. Q. M. Badruddoza Chowdhury, resigned. Mr. Sircar served as acting president until a new president was chosen on September 6, 2002.
Personal Life
Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar was married to Nur Akhtar, who passed away in 2023. They had a daughter named Nilufar Jamir and two sons, Nawshad Zamir and Naufal Zamir. Besides his work in politics and law, he is known for founding the Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar Collegiate Institute in his hometown of Panchagarh.
