Mulan Jameela (born Raden Wulansari on 23 August 1979) is a famous Indonesian singer and a member of the Indonesian Parliament. She joined the People's Representative Council (which is like the main law-making body in Indonesia) in 2019. She represents the West Java area for the Great Indonesia Movement Party, also known as Gerindra.
Music Career
Starting with Ratu
Mulan began her singing journey performing in cafes and joining different bands. She became very well-known when she formed a music duo called Ratu with Maia Ahmad in 2005.
The duo released their first album, Ratu & Friends, in August 2005. A song from this album, "Teman Tapi Mesra" (which means "Friends But Close"), quickly made Mulan a very popular singer in Indonesia. This song was number one in Indonesia for many weeks. It was also very successful on radio stations in Malaysia and Singapore. The album sold over 400,000 copies, earning a "Double Platinum" award. This made Ratu the most successful female music group at that time.
The next year, Ratu released another album called No. Satu (meaning "Number One"). This album sold 500,000 copies in its first week! Their songs "Lelaki Buaya Darat" and "Dear Diary" also reached number one on the music charts. Ratu also won several awards, including the Anugerah Musik Indonesia (Indonesian Music Awards) in 2006.
However, Mulan left Ratu in 2007. She then decided to start her own solo singing career and signed with EMI Indonesia.
Solo Singing
Mulan released her first solo album, Mulan Jameela, in January 2008. At this time, she also started using her stage name, Mulan Jameela. The first song from her album became number one and was very popular. Her second song, "Wonder Woman," was also a big hit, reaching number one on many charts in Indonesia.
Her album quickly received a "Platinum" award in 2008 for selling more than 100,000 copies in just a few weeks.
Political Career
In the 2019 Indonesian general election, Mulan Jameela was chosen to be a member of the People's Representative Council. This is Indonesia's main legislative body, similar to a parliament. She served for the 2019–2024 period, representing the West Java XI area for the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra). She received 24,192 votes.
She was re-elected for a second term in the 2024 Indonesian legislative election with 83,526 votes. This means she continues to represent her area in the Indonesian Parliament.
