Multan Division facts for kids
Multan Division (Urdu: دوسوں ملتان) was an important administrative area in the Punjab region of Pakistan. It was like a large district or province within the country. This division existed until the year 2000, when some government changes took place and these types of divisions were no longer used.
History of Multan Division
Multan Division was first created a long time ago, when the British ruled the Indian subcontinent. It was located between certain lines of latitude and longitude, which are like invisible lines on a map that help us find places.
The Sutlej River formed its border to the south-east, separating it from Bahawalpur. The Indus River, another major river, flowed partly through the division and partly along its western border.
The main office for the Multan Division was in the city of Multan. During very hot weather, the office sometimes moved to a cooler place called Fort Munro.
Multan Division was actually stopped for a short time in 1884, but it was brought back in 1901. Over the years, the number of people living in the area grew a lot. For example, in 1881, about 2 million people lived there. By 1901, this number had grown to over 3 million people. The total size of the division was about 29,520 square miles.
