Mumtaz (Urdu: ممتاز) is a well-known group of restaurants based in Bradford, England. It started with its first restaurant in Bradford in 1979. Over time, the group opened more locations, including a second restaurant in Bradford in 2008, one in Leeds in 2010, and another in Manchester in 2016.
Besides restaurants, Mumtaz Group also has a food processing part called Mumtaz Food Industries. They have offices and warehouses in Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire. The company also works with Bradford College.
Mumtaz Group was the first to sell Halal baby food. They make their products in countries like Spain, Switzerland, Pakistan, Malaysia, and France. This allows them to sell their food in over 36 countries around the world.
From 2010 to 2014, the group tried a new idea called "Jaldi Jaldi." These were smaller, quick-food places. The first Jaldi Jaldi store opened in Leeds in April 2010. Most of these stores closed by 2013, and the last one shut down in April 2014.

About Mumtaz Khan Akbar
Mumtaz Khan Akbar is the person who started and owns the Mumtaz brand. He was born in Mera Qadir, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan, on February 10, 1959. He moved to Britain to join his family in 1972.
Mumtaz Khan is known as one of the wealthiest people in Yorkshire and Lancashire. In 2016, his personal wealth was reported to be around £94 million.
In 2017, a court decided that he could no longer be a company director. This decision came after an investigation into his business activities.
Rules for Company Directors
In 2018, some people connected to the Mumtaz Group were prevented from being company directors. This included Dr Gul-Nawaz Khan Akbar, Mumtaz Khan Akbar, and Rab Nawaz Khan Akbar, along with Fameeda Akbar and Kauser Akbar. This happened because of issues with a company called Greentabs Ltd, which was also known as Mumtaz Food Industries Ltd.
In 2013, Greentabs Ltd closed down, owing money to others. During this process, it was found that Dr Gul-Nawaz Khan Akbar had used company money for his own benefit. The company's board of directors knew about this. Because of this, Dr Gul-Nawaz Khan Akbar was banned from being a director for six years. His two brothers were banned for three years for helping with the transaction. Their wives were banned for two years because they did not make sure the company followed proper rules.
Tax Payments in 2018
In 2018, the tax authorities, HM Revenue and Customs, started legal action against people from the Mumtaz Group. This was because the company often did not pay its business taxes on time. The tax authorities asked the company to pay a special deposit to continue selling goods that have tax on them. However, members of the group did not pay this deposit, which led to legal action.
Workplace Fairness Case
In January 2021, a former employee won a case against the company. A judge found that the company had acted unfairly and wrongly based on the employee's race. The employee, who was White, was told by a supervisor that he could not understand how to cook the food because of his race. He was also told he "should go and work for an English company."
When the employee complained about these comments, nothing was done to the supervisor. The employee was then fired from the company. Despite this, the restaurant remains popular with customers from all over the North of England.
