Murindó is a small town and municipality in Colombia. It is located in the Urabá area of the Antioquia region. Murindó shares its borders with the Chocó region to the north and west. It also borders other towns like Dabeiba, Frontino, and Vigía del Fuerte.
This town is about 310 kilometers away from Medellín, which is the capital city of the Antioquia region. Murindó covers an area of 1,349 square kilometers. It is very close to sea level, only 25 meters high. Interestingly, Murindó does not have a public water system. People living there get their water from nearby rivers and natural pools.

Murindó's Past: A Look at Its History
The main celebration in Murindó is for Saint Bartholomew the Apostle. This is because the first settlement here was called San Bartolomé de Murindó. The town was officially founded in 1835. Don Juan Paulino Salazar is known as its founder.
Over the years, Murindó's status changed a few times. It officially became a municipal district in 1914. The town is located right next to the Atrato River. It is surrounded by untouched jungle, which makes it a great spot for adventure travelers. You can find many rivers perfect for fishing, natural pools, and paths through the rich nature.
Murindó is also rich in culture. This is because many different groups of people live there. These include mestizos (people of mixed European and Indigenous heritage), Black communities, and Emberá Katío Indigenous people.

The people of Murindó come from different backgrounds. Based on a 2005 study, here's the ethnic mix:
- Black communities make up 47.8% of the population.
- Indigenous people make up 42.0% of the population.
- Mestizos and white people make up 10.2% of the population.
How People Make a Living: Murindó's Economy
The main ways people earn money in Murindó are through farming and fishing.
People also create beautiful handmade items. They carve canoes from wood. They also make other wooden tools like canaletes (paddles), pilones (mortars), bateas (trays), and tool handles. From vines, leaves, and fruits, they weave hats, cups, and mats.
What to Eat: Local Cuisine
The food in Murindó is very special and different from typical Colombian dishes. Since Murindó is not in the Paisa area of Antioquia, you won't find the usual Antioquian foods here.
Instead, you can try unique local foods like borojó and chontaduro with salt. Fish is also prepared in many different ways. Other interesting foods include pampa, jenene, tumbo, and birimbi.
