Muritaia is a group of small spiders. These spiders are known as tangled nest spiders. They were first described by scientists Raymond Robert Forster and C. L. Wilton in 1973. All Muritaia spiders live in the South Pacific country of New Zealand.
About Muritaia Spiders
Muritaia spiders belong to a larger family of spiders called Amaurobiidae. These spiders are often called "tangled nest spiders" because of the messy, tangled webs they build. They use these webs to catch their prey.
Different Kinds of Muritaia Spiders
As of 2019, there are five known types, or species, of Muritaia spiders. All of these species are found only in New Zealand. Each species has its own unique features, but they all share common traits as tangled nest spiders.
