The Museu Alcoià de la Festa (MAF) is a special museum in Alcoy. It's also known as the Museum of the Moors and Christians of Alcoy. This museum is all about the amazing Moors and Christians of Alcoy festival. When you visit, you can learn about all the details and feelings of this famous international celebration.
The Museum Building
The museum is located in a grand old building. People in Valencian call it "Casal de Sant Jordi". This building was first built in the 1600s. It used to belong to important families named Jorda and Merita. In 1954, the Sant Jordi Association bought the building. They fixed it up to use as their main office. The building has a lower ground floor and three floors above it.
How the Museum Started
The idea for the museum came from a tradition. Every year, the leaders of the Moorish and Christian groups would give their special costumes to the Sant Jordi Association. This association organizes the Moors and Christians festival in Alcoy.
The association already had an old museum. It was in their main office and had many costumes and other items. In 2004, the association decided to create a brand new museum. This new museum, the MAF, officially opened its doors in 2006. It helps visitors experience the festival's history and excitement.
