The Museum of Art - DeLand, Florida is a special place where art comes to life! It used to be called the Museum of Florida Art. This museum is a non-profit group in Florida. It is also part of big organizations like the American Alliance of Museums. These groups help museums be their best.

The museum's main goal is to collect, protect, study, and show amazing fine art. It also teaches people about art. Besides its own art collection, the museum always has new things happening. You can see different art shows, listen to talks, and join fun art classes. They also have workshops with famous artists and special events all year long.

A Look at the Museum's History

The Museum of Art - DeLand started a long time ago in 1951. It was created by a group called the American Association of University Women.

Growing Over the Years

The museum has grown quite a bit! In 1991, a large art building was finished. It is about 23,000 square feet. Later, in 2010, the Evans C. and Betty Drees Johnson Children’s Art Center opened. This center is a special place just for kids to explore art.

In 2013, the museum got even bigger. It added a modern art gallery downtown. This new space is about 2,970 square feet. It also has a museum store that is 2,239 square feet. You can find it at 100 N. Woodland Boulevard in the heart of DeLand.

The museum offers many ways for people of all ages to learn about art.

Fun Programs for Everyone

You can attend interesting talks and discussions. There are also guided tours of the galleries. Students can even go on field trips to the museum. If you love to create, you can join art classes and workshops. During school breaks, the museum hosts art camps. They also visit schools and groups in the community to share art.

Past Art Shows

Some of the artists who have had their work displayed include Mateo Blanco and Sandro Chia. In 2013, there was a special show called "Forging an Identity: Contemporary Latin American Art." It featured art by well-known artists like Fernando Botero and Tomás Sánchez.
