This museum first opened its doors in 1951. It was started by a group called the American Association of University Women. The main building, which is about 23,000 square feet, was finished in 1991.

In 2010, the Evans C. and Betty Drees Johnson Children’s Art Center opened next door. This center is a great spot for young artists! In 2013, the museum grew even more. It added a modern gallery space and a museum store in downtown DeLand.
