The NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale is an exciting art museum located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It first opened its doors in 1958. Back then, it was known as the Fort Lauderdale Art Center.

Today, the museum is housed in a modern building. This cool structure was designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes. It was built in 1986 and later expanded in 2001. The museum has lots of space for art. It features a large main exhibition area. There's also a sculpture terrace on the second floor. This outdoor space is perfect for showing off sculptures.

The museum focuses on art from the 20th and 21st centuries. This is called contemporary art. However, its collection also includes older pieces. These works date from the 19th century. The museum has over 7,500 amazing artworks.

You can see many different types of art here. There's a big collection of ceramics and prints by Pablo Picasso. The museum also has a lot of Latin American and Cuban art. This collection features works from more than 125 artists. It was a gift from Stanley and Pearl Goodman. You can also find North America's largest display of art from the CoBrA movement. This was a group of artists from Northern Europe. The museum also has African, Oceanic, and American tribal art. Its collections are especially strong in art from South Florida and the Caribbean.

In 2008, the museum teamed up with Nova Southeastern University. This partnership helps the museum continue to grow and share art with everyone.

Exploring the Glackens Wing

In 2001, the museum got even bigger. It added a new section called the Glackens Wing. This wing was built to display art by William Glackens. He was an American realist painter.

The Glackens Wing holds over 500 of his artworks. It is the largest collection of his work anywhere. You can see his earliest known painting there. It's called Philadelphia Landscape and was made in 1893. You can also see his very last painting. This one is titled White Rose and Other Flowers from 1937.

The Famous Tutankhamun Exhibit

In December 2005, something very special came to the museum. It was a traveling exhibit of treasures from ancient Egypt. These relics came from the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.

The NSU Art Museum was one of only four places in the United States to host this exhibit. It was the first time these treasures had toured the U.S. in over 25 years. Many people wanted to see it! During its four months in Fort Lauderdale, more than 700,000 tickets were sold. It was a huge success.
