The Museum of Toys and Automata (called Museu de Joguets i Autòmats in Catalan language) was a really cool museum. It was located in Verdú, a town in central Catalonia, Spain. This museum was all about toys and amazing moving machines called automata.

It first opened its doors in 2004. Sadly, it closed in 2013. After it closed, the building was changed into an art gallery.

What Was the Museum About?

This special museum was started by a local person named Manel Mayoral. He loved collecting old toys and interesting gadgets. He had a huge collection!

The museum was set up inside an old house. This house was known as "Cal Jan." It was right in Verdú's main square. The museum had three floors. It covered more than 2,000 square meters. About half of this space was a new part added to the old house.

The Story of the Building

The "Cal Jan" house was built a very long time ago. It was built in the 15th century. Many other buildings on the same street were also built around that time. Cal Jan became a very important house in Verdú.

If you look at the first-floor balconies, you can see special stone frames. These frames show how buildings looked in the early 17th century. There's even a message carved into the front of the house. It says "1695," which is the year the house was rebuilt. In 1999, work began to turn this old house into a museum. It was made bigger and updated a lot for its new purpose.
