Musharraf Karim (born January 9, 1946 – died January 11, 2020) was a talented writer and journalist from Bangladesh. He was known for his amazing stories and articles. In 2003, he received the special Bangla Academy Literary Award for his contributions to children's books. He was also a respected member of the Bangla Academy.
Early Life and Education
Musharraf Karim was born on January 9, 1946, in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. His parents were M. A. Karim and Amina Khatun. His family's original home was in Khairati, a village in Ishwarganj.
He finished his high school studies at Edward Institution in Mymensingh in 1964. After that, he went to Nasirabad College in Mymensingh. He completed his higher secondary education there in 1967 and earned his first degree in 1972. Later, he continued his studies at Ananda Mohan College. He finished his advanced degree in Bangla in 1974. During the 1960s, he also took part in important movements against the government of Ayub Khan.
Career as a Writer and Journalist
Musharraf Karim had a successful career as a journalist. He worked as the news editor for a newspaper called the Daily Dinkal. He was also a permanent member of the Jatiya Press Club, which is a special club for journalists. Besides journalism, he also served as the director of the Tribal Cultural Academy. This academy helps to preserve and promote the culture of tribal communities.
He was a very active writer. He wrote many books, especially for young readers. His work for children was highly praised. Because of his excellent contributions to children's literature, he was given the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2003. He was also an honored member of the Bangla Academy, a very important institution for Bengali language and literature.
Later Years and Passing
Musharraf Karim passed away on January 11, 2020. He was 74 years old. He died at a private hospital in Mymensingh.
