Musselfork, Missouri facts for kids
Musselfork (also known as Muscle Fork) is a small, unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It's located in Chariton County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. You can find Musselfork on Missouri Route DD, about 8 miles north-northeast of a town called Keytesville. A stream named Mussel Fork flows about two miles west of the community.
History of Musselfork
The community of Musselfork got its start in the 1870s. It was named after the nearby Mussel Fork creek.
In 1870, a post office was opened in the community. It was first called "Muscle Fork." A post office is where people send and receive mail, and it's often a central part of a small community. In 1895, the name of the post office was officially changed to "Musselfork." The post office served the community for many years, but it eventually closed its doors in 1939.
