Musselman, Ohio facts for kids
Musselman is a small, unincorporated community located in Ross County, Ohio, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or a village. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.
A Glimpse into Musselman's Past
Musselman has a short but interesting history, mainly connected to the arrival of the railroad.
When Did Musselman Start?
The community of Musselman began to grow in 1877. This was the year a train depot was built there. A train depot is like a station where trains stop, and people can get on or off, and goods can be loaded or unloaded. The railroad extending to this spot helped the area develop.
The Post Office Story
A few years later, in 1879, a post office was opened in Musselman. It was first called "Musselman Station," because of the train depot. However, the name was quickly changed to just "Musselman" in 1880. The post office served the community for many years before it eventually closed down in 1908.
