The Musselroe Wind Farm is a large group of wind turbines located at Cape Portland in Tasmania, Australia. It's like a big power plant that uses the wind to make electricity. This wind farm was the third one built in Tasmania. It followed the Bluff Point and Studland Bay Wind Farms, which are part of the even bigger Woolnorth Wind Farm.

The Musselroe Wind Farm is run by Hydro Tasmania. They own a part of it. Most of the wind farm is owned by a company called Shenhua Clean Energy, which is based in China.

What is the Musselroe Wind Farm?

The Musselroe Wind Farm is a special place where wind is turned into electricity. It has 56 tall wind turbines. Each turbine is a Vestas V90-3MW model.

Together, these turbines can make 168 MW of power. This is enough electricity to supply about 50,000 homes. It also helps the environment by stopping 450,000 tonnes of CO2 from going into the air each year.

When did the Wind Farm Start?

Building the wind farm was a big project. The first 37 turbines started making electricity in 2013. The entire wind farm was finished and fully working by January 2014.

How Does the Wind Farm Operate?

The Musselroe Wind Farm works by capturing the wind's energy. The large blades of the turbines spin when the wind blows. This spinning motion creates electricity.

The electricity is then sent through power lines to homes and businesses. This helps power many parts of Tasmania.

Electricity Generation

The wind farm has been making electricity since March 2013. It was fully ready to produce power in September 2013. It produces a lot of clean energy every year.

For example, in 2019, the wind farm made over 654,000 MWh of electricity. This shows how much power it can create from the wind.

Helping the Electricity Grid

Since 2018, the wind farm also helps keep the electricity grid stable. This is called participating in the FCAS market. It means the wind farm can sometimes reduce its power output.

This allows it to quickly increase power when the grid needs it most. It helps make sure everyone has a steady supply of electricity.
