The Mustangs of Las Colinas is a famous sculpture. It is made of bronze. Artist Robert Glen created it. You can find it in Williams Square in Irving, Texas.

The sculpture shows nine wild mustangs (horses). They are running through a stream of water. The horses are one and a half times bigger than real horses. Fountains make it look like water is splashing from their hooves. People asked for this artwork in 1976. It was put in place in 1984.

Explore the Mustangs Museum

Right next to the sculpture is the Mustangs of Las Colinas Museum. It is in the east building of The Towers at Williams Square. This museum has special displays. You can watch a film about how the sculpture was made. It also shows other sculptures by Robert Glen.

What the Mustang Sculpture Means

The sculpture celebrates the wild mustangs. These horses were very important in Texas history. They lived freely across much of the state.

Symbolism of the Wild Horses

The horses in the sculpture stand for important ideas. They represent the strong spirit of Texas. They show the drive and freedom that were key to the state. This was especially true during its early pioneer days.

The Design of Williams Square

SWA Group designed the area around the sculpture. They created a shallow stream of water. It stretches about 400 feet across Williams Square. The square itself is a gently sloped open space. It is paved with granite and is about 300 feet wide.

The design of this plaza is very special. It won a National Honor Award. This award came from the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Buildings Around the Sculpture

Tall buildings surround Williams Square. The building on the north side is 358 feet tall. It has 26 floors. The buildings on the east and west sides are 217 feet tall. They have 14 floors each. The south side of the square is open to O'Connor Boulevard.

The sculpture is very large. However, the huge buildings around it make it fit perfectly. They keep the sculpture from looking too big for the space.
