Iftikhar Hussain (1865 – 1927) was an Indian Urdu poet. He was known by his special pen name, Muztar Khairabadi.

About Muztar Khairabadi

Muztar Khairabadi was born in 1865 in a place called Khairabad. His grandfather was Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi. His grandfather was also a famous poet, thinker, and writer. He even fought for freedom!

Muztar's first teacher was his own mother. He lived in many different cities during his life. These included Khairabad, Tonk, Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal, and Rampur.

He received special titles for his work. These were Eitbar-ul-Mulk and Iftikhar-ul-Shaura. He passed away in 1927 in Gwalior and was buried there.

His Family of Poets

Muztar Khairabadi came from a family of talented writers. His son was Jan Nisar Akhtar, who was also a well-known poet and lyricist.

His grandsons are Javed Akhtar and Salman Akhtar. Javed Akhtar is a very famous writer and lyricist in India today.

Muztar's great-grandchildren also followed in the family's footsteps. They include Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Kabir Akhtar. Many of them are involved in the film industry.

His Writings

Muztar Khairabadi wrote many books of poetry. He also started his own literary magazine. It was called Karishama-e-Dilbar. This magazine shared new writings and ideas.

He died on March 27, 1927, in Gwalior.
