The My Weird School series is a collection of funny books for kids. Dan Gutman wrote them, and Jim Paillot drew the pictures. The first book came out in July 2004. There are many books in the series, including My Weird School Daze, My Weirder School, My Weirdest School, and My Weirder-est School.

The books are all about a school where the teachers are super strange! Each book focuses on a different teacher and their funny habits. The main character is a boy named A.J. He really doesn't like school. His classmate, Andrea, is the opposite; she loves school. A lot of the humor comes from the wild and unexpected things that happen, and from the teachers' very unusual personalities.

Dan Gutman got the idea for these books after reading the Junie B. Jones series. He wanted to write similar stories, but from a boy's point of view. Gutman visits many real schools, sometimes 60 a year, to get ideas for his books. His main goal is to make reading fun for all children, especially those who find school challenging. He believes kids enjoy reading about "grownups doing dumb things," which is why the teachers in his books are so odd. Gutman feels that My Weird School helped kickstart his writing career.

The Book Series

The My Weird School series has many different parts. Each part introduces new adventures and characters.

My Weird School (2004-2008)

This is the original series that started it all. It introduced readers to A.J., Andrea, and the first group of bizarre teachers.

My Weird School Daze (2008-2011)

After the first series, new books continued the fun. These stories kept the same funny style and characters.

My Weirder School (2011-2014)

The adventures got even weirder in this series. More strange teachers and hilarious situations kept readers laughing.

My Weird School Special (2013-2020)

These are special, longer books that are part of the My Weird School world. They offer extra-long stories with the same beloved characters.

My Weirdest School (2015-2018)

This series took the weirdness to a whole new level. The teachers and school events became even more outlandish.

My Weird School: I Can Read (2016-2018)

These books are designed for younger readers who are just starting to read on their own. They are part of the I Can Read! line.

My Weirder-est School (2019-)

The latest series continues the tradition of funny, strange school stories. New books are still being released in this series.

My Weird School Fast Facts (2016-2019)

These books are different because they are nonfiction. A.J. and Andrea present interesting facts in a fun way.

My Weird School Graphic Novel (2021-)

This series turns the My Weird School stories into graphic novels. They combine pictures and words to tell the tales.

Extra Books and Media

Dan Gutman has also created other materials related to the series.

He wrote a book called My Weird Writing Tips in 2013. This book helps readers learn how to write better.

You can also listen to My Weird School as Audiobooks. Some of the early books were released together in bundles.

During the time of COVID-19 lockdowns, Dan Gutman hosted a "My Weird Read-A-Loud" series online. He also read from the books for #OperationStoryTime on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
