Mya Taylor (born March 28, 1991) is an American actress and singer. She is well-known for her role as Alexandra in the 2015 movie Tangerine. For this role, she won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female.

Mya Taylor was born in Houston, Texas, on March 28, 1991. When she was 18, she moved to California in May 2009. She faced challenges finding a place to live and work.
In January 2013, Mya shared that she is a transgender woman. She later reconnected with her mother, who gave her the name Mya. She lived with Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, who would later become her co-star in the movie Tangerine.
When Mya was 23, she met director Sean Baker and writer Chris Bergoch. They asked her to star in their new film, Tangerine.
Acting Career
Mya Taylor is most famous for playing Alexandra in Sean Baker's 2015 movie Tangerine. This film helped bring attention to openly transgender actresses in Hollywood.
Mya won the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Actor for her work in Tangerine. This made her the first openly transgender actress to win a Gotham Award. She also won the San Francisco Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress. In addition, she received the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female, becoming the first openly transgender actress to win an Independent Spirit Award.
In 2016, a major talent agency, ICM Partners, signed Mya Taylor. They agreed to help her find roles in movies and TV shows.
Mya played Marsha P. Johnson in the 2016 short film Happy Birthday, Marsha!. She also appeared in another short film from 2016 called Diane from the Moon. In December 2017, it was announced that Mya would be in the TV series Dietland. This show started airing on AMC on June 4, 2018.
