Myron Mixon was born on May 31, 1962. He is a famous American chef and a top competitor in the world of barbecue. He has won the World Championship five times. Myron Mixon also appeared as a judge on the TV show BBQ Pitmasters. People call him "the winningest man in barbecue" because he has won so many awards.

Myron Mixon's Barbecue Journey
Starting in Competitive BBQ
Myron Mixon began competing in barbecue in 1996. His first competition was in Atlanta, Georgia. He won first place for cooking a whole hog. He also got third place for his pork shoulder. Myron started competing to help promote his family's barbecue sauce. His parents, Gaye and Jack, created the sauce. His father taught him how to barbecue. Myron named his barbecue company "Jack's Old South" after his dad.
Winning Many Championships
Myron Mixon has won more than 180 major barbecue championships. He has also collected over 1,700 barbecue trophies. He won the Grand Champion title at the Memphis in May World Championship five times. These wins were in 2001, 2004, 2007, 2016, and 2021. He has also won the Big Pig Jig Grand Champion title many times. His most recent win there was in 2012, which was his third win in a row.
Myron Mixon has not yet won the Jack Daniel's BBQ World Invitational. He says this is the most important competition in barbecue. In 2004, he came in second place, missing first by only 0.1 points. However, he has won the whole hog competition there three times. His many wins have earned him the nickname "the winningest man in barbecue."
Myron Mixon on TV
Myron Mixon first appeared on the TV show BBQ Pitmasters on the TLC channel. In the first season, he was a contestant. The show followed barbecue chefs to different competitions. For the second season, the show changed. It became a competition game show. Myron Mixon became one of the three judges. He judged alongside chefs Art Smith and Warren Sapp.
The third season of BBQ Pitmasters moved to the Destination America TV channel. Myron Mixon was the only judge who stayed on the show. He was joined by other barbecue chefs, Aaron Franklin and Tuffy Stone.
Writing Cookbooks and Other Appearances
In 2010, Myron Mixon signed a deal to write cookbooks. His first book, Smokin' with Myron Mixon, was published in 2011. Famous chef Paula Deen wrote the introduction for it. In May 2012, he appeared on NBC's The Today Show. He had a barbecue cook-off against Pat Martin. Myron cooked a brisket recipe.
Becoming a Mayor
Myron Mixon was elected mayor of his hometown, Unadilla, Georgia. He started his four-year term as mayor in January 2016.

Myron Mixon's Restaurants
In January 2017, Myron Mixon opened a restaurant. It was called Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ. He opened it with his business partners Joe Corey and Bill McFadden. The restaurant was in Alexandria, Virginia, but it is now closed. It served some of Myron’s famous dishes. These included Jack's Peach BBQ Baked Beans and Baby Back Mac and Cheese. It also had Dry Rubbed Wings and other favorites.
