Starting in Local Government
Máire Hendron first became a politician in 2005. She was elected to the Belfast City Council. She represented the Pottinger District. This is a local area within Belfast.
She was re-elected to the Council in 2011. However, in the 2014 local elections, she did not get elected to the new Titanic District. The Pottinger District was changed around that time.
Serving as Deputy Lord Mayor
In 2014, Máire Hendron was chosen for a special role. She became the Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast. This is an important position in the city's government. The Deputy Lord Mayor helps the Lord Mayor lead the city council. She served in this role until 2015.
Working in the Northern Ireland Assembly
