José Ignacio Pérez Frías (born April 27, 1955 – died March 30, 2018), often called Nacho, was a Spanish football player. He played as a defender.
Nacho spent most of his career with Málaga. He played 223 games for them. He also played in four seasons of La Liga, which is Spain's top football league.
Early Life and Start in Football
Nacho was born in Madrid, Spain. His father, Pedro Pérez, worked at a hotel. His mother was Isabel Frías. Nacho was one of 12 children in his family.
When he was 14, his family moved to Málaga. He started playing football with a team called Puerto Malagueño. Later, he joined Real Madrid Castilla. However, he got injured there and left the club soon after.
Playing for Clubs
After leaving Real Madrid Castilla, Nacho joined Atlético Malagueño. At the same time, he was studying to become a doctor.
He played his first game for the main team, Málaga CF, on November 10, 1976. This was in a cup match against Linares CF. He came into the game as a late substitute.
His first game in La Liga was on March 6, 1977. He came off the bench in a game against Real Zaragoza. On March 26, he scored his first goal in La Liga. This was in a match against RC Celta de Vigo.
In 1979, Nacho became the captain of his team. He helped Málaga get promoted to the top division twice. This happened in 1979 and again in 1982.
Nacho stopped playing football in 1991 when he was 36 years old. Before retiring, he played for smaller clubs like Real Avilés, CA Marbella, and CD Mijas. After his playing career, he continued to work with Málaga. He became a youth coach and also worked as a doctor for the club.
Playing for Spain
Nacho also played for his country. He played three games for the Spanish national under-18 team.
Family and Later Life
Nacho came from a football family. His brother, Juan Carlos, was also a footballer. Nacho's son, Ignacio, also played football. Both his brother and son played for Málaga, just like Nacho.
Nacho passed away on March 30, 2018, at the age of 62.
