The Story of Nadawah
Nadawah got its name from the Nadawah Lumber Company. This company was very important to the town's early days. It even ran its own railway system.
A Busy Sawmill Town
In the early 1900s, Nadawah was a busy sawmill town. A sawmill is a factory where logs are cut into lumber. The town was located near Flat Creek. It was also close to the Louisville & Nashville Railroad (L&N), which helped transport goods.
Besides the sawmill, Nadawah had several important places. There was a post office, a school, a hotel, and various stores. These places helped the community thrive.
The Nadawah Lumber Company Railway
The Nadawah Lumber Company operated a special railway. This railway was 15 miles long. It was used to move logs and lumber. The railway ran from 1912 to 1928.
When the Town Changed
The post office in Nadawah operated for a long time. It was open from 1900 until 1967. This shows that people lived there for many years.
Nadawah was officially recognized as a community in 1920 and 1930. However, it stopped being an official town sometime in the 1930s. Today, very little remains of the original community.
