Nadia Batson is a talented singer, songwriter, and producer from Trinidad and Tobago. She is well-known for her exciting soca music. In 2007, she was a runner-up in the Power Category at the International Soca Monarch competition with her song "My Land," which she performed with Kees Dieffenthaller.
Nadia grew up in Barataria, Trinidad. For many years, she worked behind the scenes. She wrote songs, produced music, and sang backup for other artists. Eventually, she became a famous singer herself. She also helped other musicians, like writing and producing the popular song "Go Ahead And Do Dat" for soca singer Michelle Sylvester.

Nadia's Early Life
Nadia Batson was born on December 7, 1976, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. She spent her childhood in Barataria, a busy town near Port of Spain. Nadia started singing and writing songs when she was just eight years old.
She attended St Joseph TML School, where she sang Quseedas, which are Muslim ballads. As a teenager, she joined an all-girls group called Silhouette. This group won a popular TV show called Party Time. They sang a beautiful version of The Beatles' song "Yesterday". Nadia also went to St. George's College and finished in 1993. She began singing professionally at age 17.
Nadia joined a band called Andre Tanker's One World Contraband and stayed with them until 2003. After that, she became the only female singer in Kes the Band. She left Kes the Band in 2011 to start her own all-female soca band called SASS. Nadia is of Afro-Trinbagonian descent and has family roots in the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. She has shared in interviews that she is a Christian.
Music Competitions
Nadia has competed in several big music competitions.
International Soca Monarch
Nadia took part in the 2007 International Soca Monarch competition on February 16, 2007. She entered two categories:
- The Groovy category with her song "Caribbean Girl."
- The Power category with her song "My Land," alongside Kees Dieffenthaller.
She finished second in the Power category, right behind Iwer George. She also placed third in the Groovy category. Nadia was a finalist in the Power category again in 2012 and 2014.
Chutney Soca Monarch
Nadia also competed as a finalist in the 2015 Chutney Soca Monarch competition. This event took place on January 31, 2015.
Nadia's Career Journey
Judging Digicel Rising Stars
On September 14, 2014, it was announced that Nadia Batson would be a judge on the TV show Digicel Rising Stars Trinidad and Tobago. This was for the show's eighth season. She joined new judge 1st Klase and returning judge Sheldon Ramgoolam. In September 2015, Nadia's contract was renewed for the ninth season. She continued to be a judge alongside new judges Neval Chatelal and Nigel Rojas.
Singing with Kes The Band
In 2005, Nadia Batson joined the popular pop band, Kes The Band. She was a main female singer for the group. With Kes The Band, she traveled the world, performing in the United States, Canada, and other Caribbean countries. In the summer of 2011, Nadia announced that she was leaving the band to start her own music group.
Forming SASS Nation
In the fall of 2011, Nadia Batson launched her very own all-female soca band, SASS Nation. She performs alongside lead singers Terri Lyons and Megan Walrond. SASS Nation has become one of Trinidad and Tobago's top soca bands. It is also the only established all-female soca band in Trinidad and Tobago.
