Nailah Blackman (born December 2, 1997) is a talented singer and songwriter from Trinidad and Tobago. She is best known for her exciting soca songs. Nailah comes from a very musical family! Her grandfather, Garfield Blackman, also known as Lord Shorty or Ras Shorty I, created a music style called 'jamoo'. He is also famous for inventing soca music, which helped make calypso popular again. Nailah's mother, Abbi Blackman, is also a well-known calypso singer. Her aunt, Avion Blackman, is the lead singer of a Christian-reggae band called Christafari.

Nailah's Musical Beginnings

Nailah Blackman grew up surrounded by the lively sounds of soca and calypso music. These musical styles really shaped her. She started singing regularly when she was just five years old. Two years later, she entered her very first calypso competition. Her professional music journey began when she was 11. Nailah is not only trained in singing, but she also plays several instruments. These include the guitar, keyboard, and the steelpan.

Nailah Blackman's Music Career

In 2016, Nailah Blackman performed her song "Runaway Train" at an event called Movie Towne's Pixel Play. This performance helped her become more well-known across the country. It also created excitement for her new songs coming out in 2017.

Nailah worked with the popular soca band Kes on a song called "Workout". This song became a huge hit during the 2017 Trinidad carnival season. It is still very popular today! "Workout" helped Nailah reach the finals of the 2017 International Soca Monarch competition.

Also in 2017, Blackman released another song called "Baila Mami". This song was produced by Anson Pro Soverall.

In 2018, some of Nailah Blackman's most famous songs were released. These included "O' Lawd Oye" and "Sokah". She also released "Badishh", which featured the Jamaican dancehall singer Shenseea.

Nailah Blackman was nominated for a special award in 2018. She was a candidate for BET's "Best New International Act" viewer's choice competition.

In August 2019, she released her first collection of songs, called an EP. It was titled The Reel. This EP included the popular song "Sweet & Loco".
