Exploring and Mapping the Islands

People first took pictures of the Nakaya Islands from airplanes between 1956 and 1957. This was done by a group called the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (FIDASE). Later, from 1958 to 1959, another group, the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS), made detailed maps of the islands.
Animals and Plants of the Islands
Even though the Nakaya Islands are small and in a very cold place, some amazing plants and animals live there. You might find penguins waddling around. Tiny creatures called krill swim in the waters, which are a main food source for many animals. Birds like petrels fly overhead, and small green mosses can grow on the rocks.
