Nan Irene Ahearn was born in 1933 in Rye, New York. Her dad was a banker. She went to schools like Rye Country Day School and the Convent of the Sacred Heart. Nan finished college at Manhattanville College in 1955. She started working at a book company called Random House. In 1959, she married Gay Talese.

Her Work in Publishing

Nan Talese started her career at Random House. First, she was a proofreader, which means she checked books for mistakes. Later, she became the first female literary editor at that company. An editor helps authors make their books the best they can be.
