Nancy Etchemendy (born February 19, 1952) is an American author who writes exciting stories. She is known for her science fiction, fantasy, and horror books. She has even written four special novels just for kids!

Nancy Elise Howell was born in Reno, Nevada. She started publishing her novels, short stories, and poems in 1980. Her books have been enjoyed by readers in the United States and other countries.

Nancy Etchemendy has won many important awards for her writing. She has received three Bram Stoker Awards. Two of these were for her scary stories written especially for children. She also won a Golden Duck Award for her excellent science fiction book for kids. Another award she earned is the International Horror Guild Award.

Her Popular Books

One of Nancy's thrilling science fiction novels is The Power of Un. It was published in March 2000. She also wrote a collection of short, dark fantasy stories for young adults called Cat in Glass and Other Tales of the Unnatural. This book came out in 2002 and was listed among the best books for young adults that year.

Education and Life

Nancy Etchemendy studied at the University of Nevada, Reno. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts and English Literature. She also attended the Clarion Workshop in 1982. This workshop helps science fiction and fantasy writers improve their skills. Today, Nancy lives and works in Northern California. She is married to John Etchemendy, who used to be a leader at Stanford University.
