About Nanfadima Magassouba

Nanfadima Magassouba was born in a place called Koundara Prefecture. For about 30 years, she worked with groups that help workers and local communities. She became well-known as the president of CONAG-DCF.

Leading Women's Rights

Under Nanfadima Magassouba's leadership, CONAG became the most important women's rights group in Guinea. It was even recognized by the United Nations as a group that could give advice. This shows how much impact she had.

Her Political Career

In the 2013 election, Nanfadima Magassouba was chosen to be a member of the National Assembly. She represented the Rally of the Guinean People (RPG) political party. She also served as a Minister, looking after National Solidarity and promoting the well-being of women and children in Guinea.

She played a big part in helping Alpha Condé win the 2015 presidential election in her home area of Koundara. She continued to be a strong supporter and campaigner for the RPG party there. In June 2016, she was chosen to lead a special group within the RPG party.

International Involvement

In May 2017, Nanfadima Magassouba went to Yale University in the United States. She took part in a meeting for African political leaders. This shows her involvement in important discussions on a global level.

Standing Up for Women

Nanfadima Magassouba was also the leader of a group of women who were members of parliament. In July 2016, another woman, Fatoumata Binta Diallo, took over this role.

As a woman parliamentarian, Nanfadima Magassouba strongly spoke out against making polygamy legal again in Guinea. Polygamy is when someone is married to more than one person at the same time. This practice had been banned in Guinea since 1968.

On December 29, 2018, Nanfadima Magassouba and all 26 other women members of parliament refused to vote for changes to the country's laws that would have allowed polygamy again. They said:

Our mothers, aunts and grandmothers fought hard for this ban. There is no question of going back on these achievements. We want to move forward.

This shows her strong commitment to protecting the rights and progress that women in Guinea had already achieved.
